HUMAN RIGHTS POLICY
Shearer Candles believes that fair and ethical treatment is fundamental to its success and respects internationally recognised Human Rights to ensure that all people in our company and within our supply chain are treated with dignity and respect.
In Line with the UN Guiding Principles and Human Rights (UNGPs) 2016 Shearer Candles recognises the responsibility to respect and commit to these principles through human rights due-diligence.
Shearer Candles expects its clients & suppliers to attain and comply with the same human rights principles and communicates this policy to them through supplier self-audits and their website

Human Right – Definition
Human rights are basic rights to all human beings, regardless of religion, nationality, sexual orientation, ethnic origin, colour or any other status. Everyone has the right to life, the right to respect for private and family life, and the right to freedom of religion and belief.
Objectives
To inform employees, suppliers and customers of our commitment to human rights.
To commit to ongoing human rights through due diligence, and to encourage our suppliers and customers to work to this policy.
Maintain high ethical standards and contribute to human rights.
Shearer Candles complies with all applicable laws and legislation. This policy reflects our commitment to respecting internationally recognised human rights.
Forced Labour
Shearer Candles does not use and prohibits the use of forced, bonded or involuntary prison labour or any form of human trafficking.
Workers are free from payment of any fees, taxes, deposits or bonds for the purpose of recruitment or placement or their identity papers with their employer and are free to leave their employer after reasonable notice.
Workers are free from pressure, coercion, threats (financial or otherwise) into accepting or maintaining employment.
Freedom of Association and the right to collective bargaining
Shearer Candles recognises the right of the employees to join or form a trade union and to bargain collectively with current employment legislation.
No employee will face discrimination on the basis of membership or non-membership of a trade union.
Safe and Healthy Workplace
Shearer Candles regards the promotion of health and safety as a mutual objective for management and employees at all levels and has a Health & safety policy in accordance with Health and Safety act 1974.
Shearer Candles provides a safe and healthy workplace.
Adequate steps are taken to prevent accidents and injury to health arising out of, associated with, or occurring in the course of work, by minimising, so far as is reasonably practicable, the causes of hazards inherent in the working environment.
Workers receive regular and recorded health and safety training.
Child labour
Shearer Candles does not use child labour and will not employee workers under the age of 16.
Young persons under 18 shall not be employed at night or in hazardous conditions.
Documentation will be checked and copies held to verify compliance with this policy and UK law.
Working hours are not excessive:
Shearer Candles complies with UK law and all employees are treated fairly in accordance.
Working hours, excluding overtime, are defined by contract, and do not exceed 48 hours per week.
All overtime is voluntary.
