Today marks the start of Wimbledon; the oldest tennis tournament in the world, and widely regarded as the most prestigious! For us Brits, Wimbledon equals British Summer time, whether you actually care about the sport or not!
Like most events in the calendar, it’s simply a great excuse to get together with friends and of course indulge in some fun, nostalgic foodie traditions!
There’s nothing quite like enjoying a Pimms and Lemonade on a freshly cut lawn in the sunshine (did we ever need an excuse?), while listening to the match on a small portable radio. And you wouldn’t need to twist many arms to indulge in strawberries and cream whilst watching a set or two!
In fact, Strawberries and cream are such a tradition at Wimbledon, that in 2017 Wimbledon spectators consumed 28 tonnes of strawberries and 10,000 litres of fresh cream, creating a whopping 140,000 portions of the stuff!
Here at Shearer Candles we’re begrudging being dragged out of the glorious sunshine and back to our desks, and counting down the hours until we’re back in the garden enjoying the festivities.
To keep up the anticipation, we’re burning our Eton Mess candle from our new Summer Fayre range; it feels so appropriate with its notes of fresh summer berries and crisp, crunchy meringue. And only 0 calories to enjoy! We’ll save those sins for a Pimms later tonight!
