There is an old saying in Glasgow, that you “Take the rough with the smooth” and it couldn’t be truer when we are sitting outside in our gardens this summer. Despite the lack of continuous good weather we have been flocking to enjoy the long sunlight evenings that are synonymous with summer. However, with these evenings comes a uniquely Scottish problem… the midge. As many a scots person will tell you, these miniature munching machines can destroy a wonderful evening. They will nibble away at you and leave a horrid itch, intrude upon a lovely evening and even bathe in unattended glasses of wine which will make your evening most unpleasant. There are many an old housewives tale to rid you of these little beasties, be it leaving orange peel out on the table, starting a fire (the smoke will drive them away) or spraying yourself in a horrible putrefying potion designed to repel insects, and unwittingly also those sitting closest to you. Well folks, we at Shearer Candles love a candle solution to any problem, so we are delighted to announce the introduction of the Citronella Range of candles into our line. The citrus scents and smoke produced from the candle can assist in repelling these little blighters, and is also pretty handy for those of you who have the displeasure of sharing your evening with some larger mosquitos. We have three candles that are ideal for this situation. Firstly, we have the Citronella Lemon Balm Multi Wick Candle. This pragmatic and wonderful candle has three wicks, which will allow more smoke to be produced to deter the little midges. The soothing citronella and lemon balm scent will take away the acrid scent of the smoke, as well as creating a serene atmosphere around your evening table. Our second offering comes in the form of Citronella and Lemon Balm Tealights. These offer the same luxurious scent as the multi wick, but come in a beautiful tealight, perfect for early evening and dining. The smoke is not as plentiful as the multi wick however the citronella scent can assist in keeping those pesky midges away! They are also ideal for use in all your lovely outdoor holders and garden lanterns.
