Does candlelight help you to relax

Friday 13th March 2020 is dubbed “World Sleep Day”. World Sleep Day is an annual event that’s all about reminding us about the importance of a good night’s sleep to rest, restore and heal. In our hectic day to day lives, it’s easy to sacrifice those important hours of rest and relaxation for the ever growing to do list.

It’s no secret that the best night’s sleep comes when you go to bed really relaxed. So aside from a relaxing bubble bath and meditation, how else can you relax before bed?

Does candlelight help you relax?

Yes. As darkness descends at the end of the day, the light sensitive cells in our eyes signal to our brains that it’s time to go to sleep. So by dimming the lights down and sitting in lamp and candlelight a couple of hours before your desired bedtime, you’re signalling to your brain well in advance that it will be time for bed.

By nature, we’re also fascinated by fire and flames. Fire has been critical in our evolution, so we’re born with an instinct to learn how to build and control fire. Candlelight is no different and it’s relaxing to watch the flames flicker.

Can fragrance help you to relax?

It’s also said that some fragrances can aid relaxation. If you struggle to relax, why not invest in scented candles, diffusers, wax melts or even use some essential oils in a bubble bath in one of the following scents: Orange, Frankincense, Peppermint, Clary Sage, Lavender, Rosemary.

The world is a very stressful place right now, and there are plenty of scary thoughts to keep you awake at night. We hope these tips help you to get those precious hours sleep you need and deserve.

Happy sleeping candle lovers!
